All of us at UNSTUCK: an OCD kids movie had the good fortune to be special honorees at the 2018 Beyond Beauty event, held by the James E. Marshall Foundation last week. The foundation has raised almost $4 million for scientific research into OCD.
Vanessa, Charlotte and Jake spoke to an audience of almost 200 and described what they would like people to understand about OCD.
Jake mentioned, "It’s important to understand that we (people with OCD) are not all scared of germs, and we don’t need everything to be perfectly organized."
Vanessa said, "The most important thing to know about stopping OCD is that you have to believe in yourself. If you don’t, then you’re giving into your OCD, and giving it control of you."
Charlotte spoke to how a family can help, "If you know someone with OCD, you can do more than just tell them to find a therapist. Make it a group effort, join in and make them feel like they have people who support them.
